Technology Commercialisation
1.1 Project Objective/Brief
Develop business plan, negotiate technology license, royalty arrangement, service level agreements on behalf of client with government R & D organisation.
1.2 Methodology Employed
Meetings were held between client and government representatives to agree the scope of the exercise and develop the business model. Our role became one of project manager and process driver. We gathered information from a variety of sources including different government departments, a survey of potential customers, government technology advisers and patent attorneys and developed the business model. The project has been managed by developing milestones and a reporting framework incorporating monthly project meetings.
1.3 Outcome
An agreed business model with clear understanding of responsibilities, funding, financial model, IP status, ongoing funded research capability and distribution pipeline
Equity Investment
2.1 Project Objective/Brief
Raise equity for Adelaide-based company, which provides technology and services to growers in viticulture, cotton, tropical and other crops throughout Australia and irrigated agricultural markets worldwide.
2.2 Methodology Employed
Strategon reviewed the company’s draft documentation and turned it into a cohesive and clear information memorandum, ensuring that it contained all the data that potential investors would require. Considerable time was spent analysing the financial projections and the assumptions behind the numbers. The documents were then critiqued and proofed.
Throughout this process Strategon developed a close relationship with the senior management team, advising them of investor requirements and assisting with the review of presentations for potential investors.
The company gave a presentation on their investment proposal to a Strategon-organised investor forum in Sydney. Following the response from this Strategon assisted the company in negotiations with potential investors.
2.3 Outcome
A substantial equity investment into the company from a Sydney-based food and agri-business investment fund. The company will now accelerate its Australian and international growth in technology and services for the agricultural industry.
Investment Readiness
9.1 Project Objective / Brief
To design and conduct a series seminars to assist companies in regional centres to become investor-ready and promote investment regional.
The program is one of the most significant training programs to regional businesses, their advisers and community organisations across Australia. Throughout the course of 2003 Strategon deliver the seminar program throughout South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, New South Wales, Victoria and the Tasmania.
9.2 Methodology Employed
Strategon developed an interactive series of workshops including comprehensive course materials and business templates. The learning experience was enhanced by encouraging the interaction of participant through simulation, shared case studies and group exercises.
9.3 Outcome
All companies involved in the program have a clear understanding of the potential sources of capital, investor expectations and what is required to prepare their business for investment. Businesses are now utilising a number of tools and templates provided to assist them in developing a winning business case and define their investor offer. Average attendance of approximately 30 participants across all regional centres was achieved. In all, Strategon delivered over 120 seminars in 81 locations to 4,000 participants.
